Crossing international borders for performances with musical instruments that contain ivory, rosewood, tortoise shell, and other protected species material requires special permits and advance planning. In the Travel Rules for Protected Species and Musical Instruments webinar on May 7, representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the agency that implements the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in the United States, will provide an overview of the rules for travel with musical instruments and will invite questions from viewers. The free one-hour webinar takes place on Tuesday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern/Noon Pacific Time. The event will not only review the basics but also provide important insights into ways orchestras and musicians can support conservation by being informed of rules specific to musicians and their instruments.

Check out the League of American Orchestras’ Protected Species Travel Tips and the Know Your Bow campaign to get started on learning the basics.
